Software Engineer · Sep 2019 – Sep 2021

  • Led development and technical direction across multiple insurance platforms built on C#/.NET, Typescript/VUE, and SQL Server
  • Contributed to removal of 500k+ lines of legacy code as part of a wider simplification and modernisation initiative
  • Single-handedly rewrote a business-critical internal configuration application, used by all site stakeholders, from .NET Framework 4.6.2 (WebForms, Entity Framework) to .NET 9, writing tests upfront to verify existing behaviour was preserved through the migration
  • Built the application's CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions, with guidance from a senior DevOps engineer, enabling automated build, test and deployment for the rewritten application
  • Used the rewrite to remove unused legacy features and ship a long-requested new feature at release, delivering the full migration in around six weeks alongside core responsibilities, with GitHub Copilot and Claude Code used to accelerate the refactor
  • Contributed to the planning and execution of a large-scale Entity Framework 6 to EF Core migration on a business-critical legacy monolith, rewriting hundreds to thousands of model files and updating surrounding infrastructure logic as part of a cross-department engineering effort
  • Helped manage regression risk on this high-risk migration through a combined strategy of unit, manual and automated testing, ensuring a safe, correct cutover across the full application

AI Tools

I've integrated AI tools into my development workflow to meaningfully improve productivity and delivery speed. That means knowing when to use them, when not to, and always verifying the output.

Claude

Claude Code

My go-to for complex reasoning, code review, and architecture discussions. Runs as a CLI in the terminal, making it feel like pair programming. I use it for iterative development, refactoring, and especially like the planning mode feature.

OpenAI Codex

Codex

OpenAI's agentic coding tool, built for terminal-first development workflows. I use it for scaffolding, refactoring tasks, and letting it run autonomously on well-scoped problems. I like it because it can iterate without hand-holding, allowing me to focus on higher-level decisions.

GitHub Copilot

GitHub Copilot

IDE-integrated autocompletion that reduces friction during day-to-day coding. Even when I need to write code from scratch, Copilot helps me stay in the flow by suggesting completions and entire functions based on context.
